Resources

The following are resources (free and paid) that I use myself and have found to be of high value, or which have come highly recommended to me by people I trust. You won't find the usual internet 'hype'. Of course, just because I like them doesn't mean they're right for you. Please conduct a full due diligence investigation to be sure these products meet your needs, before considering their use. And be sure to first read myDisclaimer page.

Trading Strategy

  • Absolutely brilliant resource for learning to trade.
  • While it does contain significant forex material, much of the information is relevant to trading in general.
BabyPips
  • Excellent FREE forex education - click on the School link.
  • While it does contain significant forex material, much of the information is relevant to trading in general.
Sam Seiden articles
  • Ok, this site will not provide a complete education, but I've included it here because in my opinion it is essential reading for all traders - a vital part of your education.
  • Sam Seiden writes some of the best stuff I've ever read on the reality of trading. It's a must-read.
  • Check out the articles on this site for a great insight into the reality of the markets - supply and demand.

BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

Trading Journal Spreadsheets

Trading Journal Spreadsheets

for...

Stocks, Forex, E-mini Futures, Options, Spread Betting or CFDs

  • This is the best value for money spreadsheet log I've found on the internet. This is the one I use and recommend.
  • It track's up to (7) different performance categories, and allows for multiple Entry/Exits.
  • It comes with a very cool Expectancy & Drawdown Formulator to track your future Profit & Drawdown (Loss) potential. (Usually an additional purchase, but currently available as a bonus (as at Sep 1, 2009) - please check the sales page though to confirm it's still available)
  • It's feature packed and comes with great support from the creator (who is also a trader).
  • It's a must-see, especially if your not currently tracking your trading performance.

  • If you want to see what it looks like, there are some screenshots and slideshows on the Trading Journal Spreadsheets website. Alternatively, it's the spreadsheet that I used while filming this video - check it out here - "Trading Journal - What is the Minimum Data You MUST Record."

MONEY MANAGEMENT

TradingWithMoneyManagement
  • Trading With Money Management - This is a fairly new site by Brian Zimmerman, with lots of potential. It's rare to see a site with a focus on money management, so this is a treat. There are some good articles on the LHS menu. It's well worth checking out and keeping an eye on this site in future.

TRADING PSYCHOLOGY

Trading Mind CDs
  • Trading Mind CD's by Subconscious Training Corporation
  • Relaxation / Affirmation sessions to build a positive trading psychology and overcome your current trading difficulties
  • Highly recommended - I like this resource.
Mental Edge Newsletter
  • This is one of the dozens of newsletters that I receive on a regular basis, but one of the few that I always read.

Who needs this:

(a) Anyone who has been trading for a while and recognizes the necessity of studying trading psychology.

(b) Anyone who is not yet consistently profitable, but would like to become profitable.

So, that's basically anyone who's serious about trading.

The newsletter comes out three times a week. It's written by Michael S. Shopshire, Ph.D, and provides not only great content but also workable solutions to numerous trading difficulties.

Get more info at http://www.marketwise.com/MW_RA/MentalEdge.asp

The signup box is over on the right. The newsletter you want is the MarketWise Mental Edge.

Enjoy!

Psychology of Intelligence Analysis
  • "Psychology of Intelligence Analysis" by Richards J Heuer, Jr., published by the CIA's Center for the Study of Intelligence, 1999.

  • Available as a pdf download from this webpage

  • Ok, so it's a CIA book written for Intelligence Analysts, not a trading book written for traders. However, the information available in this book is superb. Well written and easy to follow. This is an excellent source of information on how we think, and the cognitive biases which undermine our ability to process information and conduct market analysis.

  • VERY APPLICABLE TO TRADING. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. This is one of my favorite trading psychology books. Check it out. It's a free download.

The Mind of a Trader (podcast)

  • Trading Psych podcast
  • What more could you want for that drive to & from work... brilliant stuff.
Self Esteem Article
  • "Overcoming "Self-Esteem". Why Our Compulsive Drive for "Self-Esteem" Is Anxiety-Provoking, Socially Inhibiting, and Self-Sabotaging." by David Mills
  • This is NOT an article on trading psychology, but rather what I believe to be an absolutely brilliant , and incredibly important, article on the damage that a philosophy of self-esteem creates within all areas of our lives - and this of course includes our pursuit of trading success. Read the article from a trading psychology perspective. I personally gained incredible breakthroughs in my own trading psychology when I read this article the first time, and now make it a regular practice to read this article often. It never loses its impact. I hope you get just as much out of it.
