Review of Read the Greed - LIVE!

How much would your trading benefit from watching Mike Reed trade emini futures LIVE for almost seven hours?

I pride myself in providing a quality trading education resource through my website, and in referring only those products and educators who I believe provide real value. My regular readers will be well aware that for a while now I’ve been recommending Mike Reed’s ebook, “Read the Greed, Take the Money” as my most highly recommended trading education resource.

So, it’s perhaps time that I reviewed another of Mike’s products, “Read the Greed – LIVE!” - the CD-ROM version of the book, with live video of all trade setups.

Did it meet my expectations?

Meet them? It smashed them out of the ballpark!

In my opinion, Read the Greed – LIVE!stands almost alone in the marketplace, in PROVIDING REAL VALUE for both novice and experienced traders.

You might relate to my story? In my own trading development, I have read dozens of books (there’s 55 of them sitting on my bookshelf right now, so there’s easily been 100+ all up). I have spent years surfing the internet and forums trying to find the answers. I attended three weekend seminars and completed an online course (the total cost of these well over $10,000, unfortunately none of these providing anything that can’t be found in a $30 book). Did all this help? Well, I guess it all builds a bit on my knowledge, but it’s been a LONG HARD STRUGGLE to get to profitability.

What was missing, was the opportunity to sit down beside a real trader and watch them trade live. What was missing was something likeRead the Greed – LIVE!”.

Here’s what you get:

·         A CD containing the ‘Read the Greed’ ebook

·         7 CD’s containing video demonstrations of the “Read the Greed” setups, LIVE.

·         A workbook on how Mike Reed identifies support and resistance levels.

·         A CD containing video demonstrating the identification of support and resistance levels.

Read the Greed – LIVE!provides the opportunity to sit down beside a real trader and watch him trade live. This is not hindsight trading, that you get from many educators. This is LIVE.

In this day and age of instant downloads, I’d forgotten how exciting it is to be heading to the post office each day hoping that a package has arrived. How cool is that!

Which markets does this apply to?

Mike trades emini futures on a short 2 & 5 minute timeframe. However it’s my belief that this strategy can be applied to any market and any timeframe, provided sufficient liquidity. This is because it’s a REAL trading strategy, based on the reality of the market – the fixed and dynamic support and resistance levels created by the supply and demand of the market participants.

The only difference is the lack of Tick indicator for some markets, but there are ways around that as I’ll explain shortly.

Here’s what it’ll do for you:

Really, it all comes down to the opening sentence of this article – how much would your trading benefit from watching Mike Reed trade LIVE?

This education is brilliant. I love it. If I was starting out now, this is the product I’d want to have to fast-track my education.

·         Watch and listen as a real trader deals live with:

ü  Setups that win.

ü  Setups that don’t follow through, and are exited for a scratch trade, small loss or small profit.

ü  Setups that are missed (great setup, but the entry didn’t trigger)

ü  You’ll even see a trade that after exit, moves on without him.

·         See when he uses an anticipatory entry, as opposed to one seeking confirmation.

·         See how a real trader manages scaling out of trades, choosing between profit targets and trailing stops. How does he identify likely areas of stall for price targets.

An extra note for experienced traders:

When this course first came out in mid to late 2007, I was of course tempted (having found such great value in the ebook), however chose not to buy it at the time as I thought didn’t need it. Firstly, I don’t trade exactly Mike’s setups – I’ve adapted them to suit me so it’s slightly different. Secondly, I was happy with my results as they were. So I chose not to get it at the time.

Well, I’ve been proven wrong.

Even if you’re already trading profitably, and even if you don’t trade exactly Mike Reed’s setups, you’ll have to accept that there’s much to learn from watching other traders trade live. Hearing a trader explain what they’re seeing in price action, and gaining insights into how they manage risk while a trade is happening, is pure gold!

The part I got most value from was the section on ‘opposing setups’ in which you watch Mike handle two setups in close proximity pointing in opposing directions. Seeing him moving from one trade, reversing into another, and in one case back again in the original direction – that’s something you don’t get from the ebook alone, or from any other course I’ve ever come across. Priceless!

If you have an education budget (which you should), then add this product to the top of your list. If it’s more than one month’s budget, save up for a couple of months. It’s well worth it, I believe, for traders at all experience levels.

Here’s how I can help you fast-track results:

1.    A structured training program - I know you’ll want to just jump straight in and watch all the videos in one hit. However, there’s so much information that I don’t think you’ll take it all in. You really need to take a slow and steady, structured approach. So at the end of this article you’ll find a recommended, structured ‘training program’ to allow you to get to maximum value out of your copy of Read the Greed – LIVE!”. Everyone can have a copy of this – you’ll see it down below.

2.    A copy of my notes – This one is only for those who purchase through my link (to provide a small compensation for the day and a half it took to type up the 36 pages of notes). Normally, you’ll want a pen and a good pad of note paper as you watch the videos, to record your observations on how Mike identifies the setups, enters, manages and exits the trades. Well, to save you the effort and allow you to actually watch the video rather than miss the action while writing, I’ll give you a copy of my notes.  36 pages, formatted with sufficient room for you to add your own observations, and maximize your learning opportunity. Here’s the link to get your copy of  “Read the Greed – LIVE!now.  (Contact me after you receive your product in the mail, and I’ll email a copy of the notes).

Here’s how to get it:

A plan for getting maximum value out of “Read the Greed – LIVE!”:

1.    Establish your foundation.

a.    Read the Getting Started and Q&A handbooks.

b.    Read the ebook – you’ll find that on the last CD if you don’t have it already. This will give you an understanding of how you’ll be finding the high probability and low risk trade setups.

c.    Set up your platform to duplicate Mike’s layout.

2.    Learn to identify support or resistance.

a.    Read the bonus book and watch the CD on “How To Find Support and Resistance”.

b.    Follow along for a week with Mike’s email signals which give you his support and resistance zones. Place them on your charts, and using the material in the book, see if you can work out how or why he identified that as a support or resistance zone. Does it match your own zones?

3.    During this week while practicing support or resistance, watch the trading videos. I recommend no faster than one per day. The goal of this viewing is to identifying the SETUP only. Don’t be too concerned with entry, trade management or exit. Watch the charts for the setup.

a.    Review each setup in the ebook first.

b.    Watch the video lesson, and see Mike trades the setup live.

c.    Take note of how price action looks within the fixed and dynamic support and resistance framework, and see how the video setup matches the ebook definition and examples.

d.    Confirm before moving on that you can see exactly what Mike sees, and can identify this as a valid setup.

4.    Learn to see the setup areas on the charts.

a.    This is a key component to ensure you’re not just triggering an entry in any old area of the chart – learn to find the setups before you worry about entry.

b.    After each trading session is over (because it’s easier with hindsight), review the chart to see all the setups that occurred. Do that for both the fixed and dynamic setups, don’t worry about how to enter the trades yet – just find the setup areas.

c.    Once you’re comfortable with finding the setups after the session (and that might only take a day or two), practice for at least a week just identifying the setups live. Once again, don’t worry about how to enter the trades yet – just find the setup areas.

5.    Once you’re comfortable seeing the setup areas, then focus on entry, trade management and exit.

a.    Continue with your daily setup practice (during and post-session).

b.    Watch the videos again, this time focusing on trade entry, trade management and exit.

c.    Take note of Mike’s reasoning for entry, whether in anticipation of the area holding, or after seeking confirmation of the price stalling.

d.    Listen for insights into how he handles trade management and exit - quick exit when the trade’s not working, movement of the stop to breakeven, scalping exit for partial profits etc.

e.    Take notes, and review them. There’s a lot to learn here.

6.    Practice live on a simulation platform – if you’re broker doesn’t have one, find another broker who does (just for practice – you don’t have to use them live).

a.    Journal everything immediately after your trade – what setup was it, why did you enter at that point, why did you move stops when you did, why did you choose that target, why did you exit at that point?

b.    Review it with hindsight after the session in order to answer these questions:

                                          i.    Was it actually (in hindsight) at a valid setup area?

ii.    If it wasn’t a valid setup, then:

1.    Why did you see this as a setup?

2.    How can you improve next time?

3.    Reward yourself for a good review.

iii.    If it was a valid setup, then:

1.    How could the entry be improved (if at all)?

2.    How could your trade management be improved (if at all)?

3.    How could your exit be improved (if at all)?

4.    Reward yourself for a good trade and a good review.

7.    Only when you’re getting positive results on a simulation platform, should you then start live. Be sure to repeat the same process. MANAGE RISK. Adopt Mike’s aggressive exit policy – if the trade loses its edge, get out. Make sure you use the smallest position size possible – if you want to start straight away with multiple parts to allow scaling in and/or out, make sure it’s no more than one contract per part.

8.    Increase size only when profits are proven at each size level. Take it slow and steady. The markets are there again next week. There’s no hurry. And remember, you only need one good setup to make an awesome day. Go for the quality setups.
